In need of a new creative outlet, Gareth first picked up photography in 2011 whilst living in Edinburgh. It was the discovery of street photography though that really not only changed how he saw the world but also the direction of his life as he dedicated himself to the craft. Day to day surroundings that had become stale suddenly seemed vibrantly alive, made up of a mosaic of small moments, characters and stories. Along with his similarly inclined brother Gavin, they scoured the streets of Edinburgh and elsewhere in Europe documenting the world around them with a distinctive visceral approach.

Unfortunately, whilst he was pursuing photography, it also turned out he was struggling with chronic lyme disease. This has been a life-altering ordeal and often has it taken him off the streets, and away from pursuing his craft- sometimes for long periods of time. Nevertheless, he battles on and continues to shoot despite his condition, because for Gareth, street photography is a catharsis that helps him focus on and works towards something positive.

Gareth often works in collaboration with his brother as The Bragdon Brothers and in 2025 they published their first monograph, Phantasmagoria, via Eyeshot Magazine. His condition eventually lead him back to the US where he and his brother currently reside in Maryland.
