Dara Petrova

Dara Petrova is a Ukrainian documentary photographer based currently in Paris.

Under documentary influence, she has an intuitive and sensitive style. Petrova is interested in identity, youth, and the way our environment influences us. How individuals invent new forms of solidarity for themselves, exhaust themselves, fall into depression, or love one another. She started photography after fleeing her country, Ukraine. She looked for environments where individuals attempt to regain their autonomy and their singularity in the face of a world that crushes them more and more. The bodies and faces she photographs reveal scars and their determination.

Petrova is a member of Women Photograph, a recipient of the Director’s Fellowship at the International Center of Photography in New York.
